I'm doing a Duathlon!

Happy Friday! Technically tomorrow is my Friday since I will be working an event at work until 10:00 PM tonight.... Tomorrow there will probably be no post seeing as I won't be home until 10:45 since I live a town over from my work. I'm exhausted thinking about it!

Courtesy of eliteevents.org
For the past couple months I've been toying with the idea of doing a Duathlon or a Tri. I purchased a bike about two and a half years ago. I rode pretty regularly, mostly every morning. Then I stopped. The last time I rode was on Thanksgiving of last year. We have a Thanksgiving race every year and you get a discount if you ride your bike. Gotta love discounts!

Anyway, I have been saying to Chris that I want to do a Duathlon. But my bike has been living at my parents house a half hour away. And last night my wonderful man borrowed his dad's truck and we dove to my parents and got my bike! YAY! I'm so excited!

For those of you who don't know what a Duathlon is, it is a race with two different activities. Biking and running. Once I start swimming again I will do a Tri, but for now lets stick with two things. They have a regular Duathlon and a Sprint Duathlon. And after much research I have decided to take part in the Christmas Sprint Duathlon by Elite Events on Sunday December 15!

1 mile run (Courtesy of eliteevents.org)
10 mile bike (Courtesy of eliteevents.org)

3 mile run (Courtesy of eliteevents.org)
I am so over the moon about doing my first Duathlon. There is a little less then 2 months or 8 weeks until this event. I am so excited and can't wait to get out on the road!

I know this is not the Friday Fab 5 but this is way better!! Oh and don't forget to sign up for my Runners Wonderland Give away!! Check out the post and how to sign up here!

Until next time everyone!

Fit4Fun Thursdays: Lovers Key Sunset 5k Recap

Yay! It's Thursday. Tomorrow is Friday and I am ready for the weekend! Especially Saturday because I can relax. Anyway, I sadly had to miss my favorite running day of the week last night. I had a work event and missed it. Needless to say I was devastated. Mostly because Brooks was in the house to test run shoes... UGH!! Kill me. I can't believe I missed it. So instead of talking about what we did last night at run club, I am going to do a recap of the race I did with Fit2Run on Sunday night!

I just wanted to share this cute picture!!
On Sunday night I drove down to Lovers Key State Park. Luckily this was not one of the parks affected  by the government shut down since it is a state park. This was a 35 min drive up the Florida west coast. It is quiet a lovely drive.

This 5k is part of a series Fit2Run is doing called Real Florida Run Series that does 5k/10k's through different Florida State parks, all over the state. It really is an awesome thing and there are a couple races near me. This was the first one I participated in. The race took place Sunday night at 6:00 PM

The 5k was a trail run through the back beach marsh of the Lovers Key. It was really peaceful. I just wanted to take it easy running. So as the race stated it was like running through the jungle! I felt so special! The course was all different. It went from grass, to mud, to sand, to grass, to roots. I knew I needed to watch what I was doing during this race. Because one wrong step and I could seriously hurt myself.

Mile one and two went by without notice. There was one water station. I was ok with that since I was taking my time. I was dodging roots, mud and water. I really felt like Indiana Jones! Mile three came around and we where back on the road heading to the finish. I soon passed Kimmi and Jill and waved. I realized that the heat and humidity was killer at the moment. But it didn't matter because I could see the finish. Soon I was running on a bridge towards the finish that was on the beach. The sun was setting int the background. I was quiet beautiful. I stopped for a min to take a picture. Then I ran to the finish.

My finish time was 36:??. I know it was 36- something. Worst 5k time ever. But the course was so beautiful and peaceful. I really enjoyed running it!

Oh and don't forget to sign up for my Runners Wonderland Giveaway! Be sure to check out yesterdays post to registered.

Until next time everyone!

Tuesday Ramblings

A lot of you must be wondering where in the world I have been! Can I just tell you how CrAzY my life has been. Between events at work, gym time, spending time with Chris and the dogs, I am usually asleep by 9:00 PM. So tonight I am going to get you up to speed on whats going on in the world of Kylee!

It is event season here in South Florida. I work in Naples. And in Naples October through April is considered event season. This is how non-profits survive here. Fundraisers are being held on a nightly basis with tickets ranging from $50.00 to $2500.00 per person. And since I work at a local non-profit and because we have an event space there has been an event every night this past two weeks. I am exhausted.

I am obsessed with Dancing with the Stars, Grey's Anatomy and Scandal. I have watched every season of Grey's, and have watched every Monday of DWTS and Scandal is my newest addiction this year. Monday's and Thursday's I find myself curled up in bed watching my shows.

I am LOVING fall fashion. It got down to 60 the other night. Which here in FLA doesn't require a jacket and I quickly got out my scarfs and boots. And by 9:30 AM it was already 80 degrees. It was short lived but it was amazing.

How's your training going? Mine is going good so far! I've been at the gym 3 days a week, running on Wednesdays and races on the weekends. I had a sunset 5k Sunday night. Look for that recap tomorrow. Plus I have my 10 mile race this weekend! AHH!

Until next time everyone!

Saturday: September Goals Recap!

It's SATURDAY! And it's October which is awesome because it is officially holiday season. All my favorite holidays back to back! YAY! It is also deadline day (D-Day 4 days ago) for my September Goals! Boy do I have an update for all of you.

I have so much to talk about! So let's start with my September Monthly Goals. If you read my blog last month, you saw my September Goals in my Friday Fab 5, but just in case here is a little reminder:

Goal One: Get more organized at work, home and in the blog world.

Status: Well, I have been somewhat successful with that. At work is a definite yes. At home, lets just say my house doesn't smell like hockey, basketball, dogs and running shoes anymore. If I haven't mentioned it before I live with THREE GUYS. And for the blog world, I am getting there so lets call this goal COMPLETED!

Goal Two: Run my 10k in 1:08:00

Status: Well I ran that race, but my time was 1:10: 22.8. So I was 2:22.8 off. Shouldn't of taken those two walking breaks!  But I am super happy with my time! For a recap of that race click here!

Goal Three: Read a book.

Status: I am in the process of reading Eat, Pray, Love. I am not done with it nor am I half way through it. But I am reading! YAY!

Goal Four: Start getting back into my workout routine.

Status: COMPLETED! I am doing great after my runners funk and joining a gym. I feel like a rock
star!

Goal Five: Keep my calendar up to date.

Status: So far so good! I just need to stop leaving my agenda in the car...Hmmmm.

Well with September closing out 4 days ago. I hope your September goals where successful. Mine where 50/50 as you can see. Here is to October!

Until next time everyone!

Friday Fab 5 (plus one): October Goals!

Happy Friday! So I am four days late with my October goals...... FAIL. But since it is Friday and time for my Friday Fab 5. This week is actually going to be Friday Fab 5 (plus one)! Here are the 5 (plus one) things that I loved about this week!

Goal One: Run Rockotberfest 10-Miler in 1:57:00
This is going to be tough. My first serious local 10 miler. I did the math (sorta) and came up with this time based on the average from my 10k last month. Hopefully I will see the results on my long training. And if I can do this, I can get a half in 2:30. That is my ultimate goal.

courtesy of eliteevents.org

Goal Two: Run 75 miles in the month of October.
I want to get A LOT of mileage in, in October. So I set a DREAM goal of 75 miles. I will settle for 50 but 75 would be ideal.

Goal Three: Finish reading a book.
One of my goals in September was read a book.... well I did read a book, but didn't finish. This month I want to FINISH the book

Goal Four: Learn a new recipe
I love to cook. Living with three guys and three dogs, I am constantly looking for something new to cook. Unless I have a meeting or work commitment, I cook EVERY NIGHT for the boys.... I mean men! But I want to learn something a little more complex. Something classy if you will. I love the easy, quick recipes. But I want to get a little fancy.

Goal Five: Interact with my readers more!
I love you all. I just feel I need to interact with you more! I was really good about it in the beginning, but now I have been a little slack. It's time to get back on the horse!

Plus One: Fit2Run Opening at Downtown Disney!
This has been the most exciting thing about my week. I was so honored to be one of the first to announce this to my readers. I am loving the fact that Disney is letting Fit2Run open at Downtown Disney! Be sure to check them out when they open on November 1st! And be sure to check out my post on this here

I hope you all had a WONDERFUL week! And Good Luck to all my friends and running buddies competing this weekend at the Tower of Terror 10-Miler! Send me your pictures, I would LOVE to see them!
Until next time everyone!

Fit4Fun Thursdays: Fitness Challenge

Two day's until it's the weekend! For most of you that mean Tower of Terror 10-Miler Saturday Night. All I can say is jealous! I hope you all got to see yesterday BREAKING NEWS. If not be sure to check it out. This post was suppose to go up yesterday but with the big announcement it got moved to today.

Before I talk about my favorite day of the week I wanted to introduce a new concept (3 days late) to everyone that I am going to do and I hope you all will join me in this new endeavor! It is call GSC Monthly Fitness Challenge. Each month on the first of the month I will provide a calendar of a different work out movement. This month is abs so I am calling it CRUNCH IT!

So to explain this simply I would love for you to do this with me! I started this morning with 75 sit up's/crunches. I know it was yesterday. But I am skipping my rest day on Saturday and do my 120 sit up's/crunches then. But I would LOVE for you to join me in my Fitness Challenge. Please let me know how your doing too! I love hearing from you guys and interacting.

I will be doing this fitness challenge in the morning before I get in the shower. I think this is the best time (for me) to get this done.

Last night was my FAVORITE day it was Fit2Run Wednesday. Even better it's hump day! WHAT WHAT! But I ran with my favorite running buddy Kimmi. She pushed me at an AMAZING 5k pace. Not gonna lie, I was hurting after. But it was totally worth it!

So I have been DYING for the past week or so when I found out this amazing news, and I wanted to be the first to tell my readers THE BEST NEWS EVER, but I was sworn to secrecy. Since I just got an email officially announcing it, I think it is totally safe to go public with it! Fit2Run is opening a store at Downtown Disney on the West Side!

I nearly cried when I heard this about a week ago. The ink was still fresh on the paper when I heard. This will be a great opportunity for every runDisney Fan to stock up on some AWESOME gear while visiting for race weekend! Opening date (according to the email I just got) is slated for November 1st. Just in time for all you Wine & Diners.

It will literally pay for itself with a purchase of shoes. What store on earth let's you return shoes if you don't like them during the first month you own them? RIDDLE ME THAT!

And Fit2Run also had an Ambassador program! These are a select group of people in the community that really believe in the mission of Fit2Run. Who motivate people, age group award winners and everyone in-between. I love the Ambassadors at my store. They are some of the greatest runners and friends I know.

Race Tips: Tower of Terror 10-Miler

Last year I participated in the Tower of Terror 10-Miler (or TOT 10-Miler for short). 2012 was the first year the TOT 10 miler was done. runDisney previously (2009) had the The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13k (8.078 miles). The 2012 TOT 10-Miler was run on September 29, 2012. We are about 5 days away from the 2013 TOT 10-Miler. I sadly won't be going this year. Personal/work choice, I promise. But my two favorite running partners Jill & Kimmi are going.

My experience at TOT 10-miler was not a fantastic one. Thinking back on it there where a few things I would and wish I could have done differently for example: like possibly done interval training and not tried to run as hard as I could in 100% humidity and not have Chris wheel me out of Hollywood studios in a wheel chair. Oh yea and the being violently sick and almost throwing up on myself on the bus.

Anyway I have put together some three tips to get through TOT 10-miler because early October in FLA, you never know what your gonna get!

Tip one: Plan for every type of weather.
Early October is still rainy and hurricane season in FLA. Because of this I recommend bringing extra of everything. Shoes, undies, socks, shorts, sunscreen bring it all!

Tip two: HYDRATE in advance! Before, during and after.
Hydrate, hydrate, HYDRATE!! Get it yet? Biggest mistake I made was not to hydrate correctly for this race. Start hydrating now. Hydrate during the race with a fuel belt and stop at every water station. You will thank me later.

Tip three: Enjoy the race and after party!
You trained so hard for this! Now it's time to celebrate. Enjoy the 10-mile race and the villainous after party!
Until next time everyone!

QOTD: Are you going to TOT 10-miler? What are you most excited for?

Fit 4 Fun Thur... Well Monday: Fit Nation Fall Social

Even though today is Thursday, my favorite day of the week is Wednesday. I will tell you this every week. Every time I see the clock hit 5:00 PM at the office I can't wait to get my running gear on and see my friends at Fit2Run. I literally have the best group of running friends ever. And it is all thanks to Fit2Run.

This week it was the Fit Nation Fall Social. What is Fit Nation (Aka FN)? It is a local fitness magazine. They are less than a year old but very active in the community. They have a social every season. The summer social was at a local restaurant. This time it took over our Fit2Run Fun Run Thursdays. Kimmi and the FN team did a great job.

courtesy of www.fitnationmag.com

Fit2Run was happy to host this event that not only had our normal 5k run but a bike course of 6, 12 or 18 miles. I obviously chose to take the 5k route. I have not come full circle to biking yet, even thought I own one. Maybe I should start riding.....Hmmm

The cool thing we got to do at this FN & Fit2Run Fall Social was that I got to test run Newton running shoes AND 110% compressions sleeves. The Newton running shoes where different. I don't think I would purchase these shoes. BUT 110% compressions sleeves, OMG I am obsessed with these. They have extra pockets to put ice. AHHH AMAZING!

Courtesy of www.newtonrunning.com

The 5k route was the same as always. At mile two there was a young girl, probably in middle school walking and as I passed her I said, "Come on girl! You're younger than me! Let's finish this as a team." then I had a running buddy the rest of the way.

After the 5k there where table set up from local Chiropractors, massage therapist, different personal trainers, it was really neat. The best part? We all had dinner from Moe's for free. It was great not having to cook dinner.

I talked to my friends and talked to different booths and got a free chair massage. It was amazing. They had a great raffle too! Sadly I didn't win anything, but Jill  did! Lucky duck. It really was a great night to hang out with my running friends and have some fun! Love my Fit2Run friends.

Until next time everyone!

Recap: Paradise Coast International 10k

Sunday morning I competed in the Paradise Coast International 10k. Was it an international 10k? Well no, it was in Naples, FL. But it was a 45 min drive from our condo to the location of the race! That's almost like going international!

courtesy of eliteevents.org

The alarm went off at 5:30 am, and I quietly slipped out of bed without waking Chris or the dogs up. I should totally win an award for this, because trying to slip out of bed without waking Bentley (our 1 year old yorkie, who is "special needs") up like NEVER happens. I had laid out my clothes the night before, so they where in the bathroom ready to go. By 6:00 am I was out the door, in the car and on my way to Naples.

By 6:30 am I was walking up to see some of my friends at the Fit2Run tent. We all chatted for a bit and then at 6:55 we all headed to the start line. This race was held at Sugden Park. I have been to this park tons of time when I was growing up. But this was my first race since Disneyland and with my runners funk I was definitely a little nervous. I had a time/goal I wanted to make and I was determined to do it. Soon the gun went off with a bang and away we went.

Mile one was very uneventful. I was trying to get my stride and calm my nerves, while adjusting to the rising humidity. I had run this course before for a 5k in June 2011, so I was some what familiar with this course until about halfway through mile one we took a left turn and we where now in a neighborhood that surrounded the park. And then after another few mins we entered East Naples Park which coincidentally was across the street from.

Mile two we where rounding a small swampy marsh lake and the sun was starting to shine. This is when I realized I didn't have my sunglasses! Kill me. We where soon leaving East Naples Park and heading back to Sugden and about to run the swampy trail around the lake. I felt great but the humidity was in full forces, especially since we where running next to a marshy swamp.

Mile three we passed the starting line and the Fit2Run tent. I looked over and saw some of my friend, Jill, Kimmie and Sarah. I got so excited that I started jumping around and waving. Sarah thankfully saw me and started jumping around too, so I didn't look like a total idiot. I was halfway through at this point and had to run the course one more time.

Mile three took use down the side of the sand by the small beach in front of the lake. And then right back into the neighborhood and back into East Naples Park. I was feeling the heat and humidity now and felt like I was struggling a little. Soon mile four turned into five and I was counting down. I had my goal in sight. I tried to pick up the pace but my lungs started to tighten up from the humidity so I had to slow down.

I rounded mile six and saw Jill, Kimmi and Sarah again and I started to jump and get excited. I started to push myself as hard as I could and crossed the finish line at 1:10:22.8. I was 2 mins short of my 1:08 goal. That was heart breaking.

I quickly grabbed some bananas and Powerade and ran over to chat with my friends. About an hour later we heard they where starting the awards. So we all started over to the award area. I was hoping for a top five finish because the awards go five deep in each category. And what runner doesn't love to be award for their training

My age group came up almost immediately. I already knew my time and they usually never (or at least that I know of) say time with the persons name. They announced the girl who came in 5th and her time was high than mine so I knew I placed. Then they announced 4th and 3rd, both where not me. I was like holy moly I am in the top two. And when they announced 2nd it was me Ta-Da!

FOR SHAME!! I missed the Fit2Run group picture. But I love Jill!

Overall this was a great race. The course was very scenic and swampy (a Floridian Favorite). Elite Events definitely puts on some great local events. I really excited for their next event.......... Rocktoberfest 10-miler!

Until next time everyone!

Friday Fab 5: Workin' on my Fitness

Happy Friday y'all! I am so happy that it is Friday! It has been a long week and I have bee slowly but surly getting out of my runners funk! It has been pretty awesome. And I know I am not the only one who know that when you start to work out again, you're pretty exhausted. That's me for sure. So here is my Friday Fab 5!
One: It's Friday
I am just happy it's Friday and I get to sleep a little tomorrow morning. I need it. I totally feel like Katy Perry in that song "Last Friday Night." When she is the geek. Ya that's me right now.

Two: I JOINED A GYM!
I joined a gym on Monday to get out of my runners funk! It is going to be awesome and take my fitness level to a whole new level. I was never against joining a gym, but my "theory" was that I am a runner all I need is a pair of sneakers and the road right? WRONG! I am happy that I made this choice.

Courtesy of lafitness.com

Three: No more runners funk!
I think I may have my stride back! I actually ran 4 miles on Wednesday! It really felt awesome to get back on the road. It was raining the whole time. But I ran with no watch, no interval timer, no nothing to let me know how I was doing. I just rain.... With a bikini over my running outfit!

Four: Paradise Coast International 10k
I have my first race since Disneyland this Sunday! I am super excited to do a 10k. This will be one of the longest race I have done locally. I usually go out of town to do a local race. But Elite Events has been putting on some amazing races with some awesome distances.

Courtesy of eliteevents.org

Five: It's Fall! Well sort of!
It starting to feel like fall everywhere else, but South Florida. But I did do a little decorating the other night to get the feeling in the house. Next stop a pumpkin fall candle! Chris has no idea whats coming! YAY!

Until next time everyone!
