Race Tips: Tower of Terror 10-Miler

Last year I participated in the Tower of Terror 10-Miler (or TOT 10-Miler for short). 2012 was the first year the TOT 10 miler was done. runDisney previously (2009) had the The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13k (8.078 miles). The 2012 TOT 10-Miler was run on September 29, 2012. We are about 5 days away from the 2013 TOT 10-Miler. I sadly won't be going this year. Personal/work choice, I promise. But my two favorite running partners Jill & Kimmi are going.

My experience at TOT 10-miler was not a fantastic one. Thinking back on it there where a few things I would and wish I could have done differently for example: like possibly done interval training and not tried to run as hard as I could in 100% humidity and not have Chris wheel me out of Hollywood studios in a wheel chair. Oh yea and the being violently sick and almost throwing up on myself on the bus.

Anyway I have put together some three tips to get through TOT 10-miler because early October in FLA, you never know what your gonna get!

Tip one: Plan for every type of weather.
Early October is still rainy and hurricane season in FLA. Because of this I recommend bringing extra of everything. Shoes, undies, socks, shorts, sunscreen bring it all!

Tip two: HYDRATE in advance! Before, during and after.
Hydrate, hydrate, HYDRATE!! Get it yet? Biggest mistake I made was not to hydrate correctly for this race. Start hydrating now. Hydrate during the race with a fuel belt and stop at every water station. You will thank me later.

Tip three: Enjoy the race and after party!
You trained so hard for this! Now it's time to celebrate. Enjoy the 10-mile race and the villainous after party!
Until next time everyone!

QOTD: Are you going to TOT 10-miler? What are you most excited for?

I ran it last year and I'm from Denver, a much dryer climate! Thankfully, I ran with my mom who wanted to take her time and stop at every water stand to hydrate. Smart move! The humidity was a killer!
A really fun race though!!! I loved it and I'm looking forward to the Princess 1/2 in Feb!
Thanks for some great tips

I'm running this year :) hydration won't be a problem for me...I'm the most hydrated person I know! I'm a little nervous since I run in the AM on an empty stomach, but I'm sure eating throughout the day will do wonders! Thanks for the tips!

I'm mostly worried about the threat of a Tropical Storm, but whatever will be will be, I guess. I'm training in Florida, so I'm used to the heat and humidity, thank goodness. I could see that being a huge challenge.
